Radiesse

Radiesse is a dermal filler that is employed to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, offer structural support, such as in the jawline and chin, and enhance volume in the back of the hands. Its formulation differs from many other fillers because it uses calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel carrier. When injected, the gel initially provides immediate volume and correction. After a few months, the CaHA works to stimulate the body to produce its own natural collagen for a long-lasting effect. Over time, the gel is absorbed, and the body metabolically processes the CaHA microspheres, leaving behind only the natural collagen.

One advantage of Radiesse over hyaluronic acid-based filler is that the effects of Radiesse are longer lasting, with many patients experiencing results for years to come. Another advantage is that where hyaluronic acid-based filler can attract water, Radiesse doesn’t, making it ideal for treating the lower face, where a sharper contour is desirable. A third is that Radiesse can provide incredible results in the neck, hands and face when spread across a wide area in its dilute form so that collagen stimulation is achieved without volume expansion (referred to as a “Radiesse wash”)

Radiesse has been approved by the FDA and has undergone extensive clinical testing. It is biocompatible, which means it is unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. The side effects are typically mild and may include swelling, redness, pain, and bruising at the injection site, which generally subsides within a short period.

The procedure is minimally invasive and can be completed within a single visit. Recovery is typically quick, with most individuals returning to their normal activities shortly after the procedure. As with other fillers, it is recommended to avoid excess physical activity for 24-48 hours post-treatment.

Remember, as our patients, we do not expect you to know the ins and outs of every treatment. If Radiesse is suitable for your concerns, this will be discussed and recommended to you in your consultation.
